Elaboration of Araratian Baccalaureate School Leadership Development Program underway

The elaboration of the Araratian Baccalaureate School Leadership Development Program continues. The program is being developed by the Ayb Educational Foundation in close collaboration with the University College London (UCL) Institute of Education (IoE).

To this end, training specialists from the UCL Institute of Education – International Leadership Development Program Director Jonathan Dale and Consultant Tony Richardson arrived in Armenia. On October 4-5, the specialists visited four regions in Armenia, particularly Kotayk, Lori, Armavir and Vayots Dzor, to meet with the principals and vice-principals of the Araratian Baccalaureate candidate schools to jointly develop the AB School Leadership Development Program.

The meetings comprised two parts – first, the specialists presented the results and conclusions of global researches regarding the role of school leadership and effective management. Afterwards, the principals and vice-principals of the AB candidate schools had group discussions to specify the role of Armenian school leadership and the areas of work.

According to specialists, it was very inspiring to see that despite the physical environment issues of schools, the AB candidate schools have dedicated principals and teachers who are open to changes.

The meetings will be summed up in the near future, and the results will serve as a basis for elaborating the leadership standards and the draft leadership development program.

On October 6, Jonathan Dale and Tony Richardson had a meeting with Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Armenia Davit Sahakyan. Sona Koshetsyan, Executive Director of the Ayb Educational Foundation, was also present at the meeting.

The goal behind the meeting was to learn about the Ministry’s stance on Armenian school management, leadership standards and leadership role. The meeting focused on the vision for the development of education in Armenia, particularly, the importance of the role of the Araratian Baccalaureate and the leadership development program in it.

The elaboration of the Araratian Baccalaureate School Leadership Development Program is expected to be completed in spring, 2018. Works aimed at the elaboration of this program were launched in summer, 2017.
